Mother Nature Strikes Back Again, Again:

Son of Mother Nature's Revenge III Dot com The Movie.

Oh Snap

In all fairness, however, these things tend to happen when you live below sea level in a flood plane.

Update: Apparently they have bigger problems than runaway oil rigs down there... sounds like the police have been ordered to stop cutting people out of their flooded attics, (as if they were drowned sailors trapped in the hull of an overturned battleship a la Pearl Harbor) and start patrolling the streets. Seems the gun stores have been thoroughly looted and the shits jumping off like the wicky, wicky, wild west. Armed, hungry and thirsty is no way to go through life son.

think of how fucked this is and remember the tsunami was at least 100 times worse. but in our defense, the americans did add their own flare to this disaster: guns

Update 2: Things are bad in Seattle as well.

Sex and Beer, Sex and Beer

are the things we like 'round here
(and gary)

I received a voice mail Friday from my sister wishing me prosperity and happiness for my 25th birthday. I don't remember exactly how it went down, but i distinctly recall some comment to the effect of "you're an old man now." I didn't put much thought into it at the time since Holly and I were speeding our way to Housemate Jon's cottage in mid-michigan, listening to old-school hip-hop on the MP3 box.

you see, folks, with a spotty weather report and few ends in my fold, i wasnt expecting much more than a chill weekend with some beers and friends. What i got was a classic crazy-as-shit-fun weekend reminiscent of college, and as intense as any impromptu gathering i have ever been a part of. And even better was the natural, flowing groove of the whole event, unforced in every way.

Now as i sit here, sipping from my sweaty Labatt Blue can and listening to Kenny Rankin, i don't feel like an old man. In fact. I feel like a million dollars. So i guess the point is, here i am: armed with my monkey boxers and a million dollar smile, and I'm sure as shit looking forward to the next 25 years.

that is all

Everyone that ever played with an NES should watch this hilarious video.

so busy... so sleepy

helicopter update: installed carbon fiber rotors, flew like a champ, bent my main shaft. Parts in the mail.

accelerometer update: prototyping complete, software issues to be resolved, testing underway. Parts in the mail.

female robot update: real girls smell better, and until A.I. revolution, are better at the art of seduction. Parts, however, still in the mail.

Nerd up

i have exploded into the geek world this week. firstly, RC stuff has always been cool, but more recently, fairly affordable. With these two truths in full effect, i bought meself a ready-to-fly, fully functionally, 6 channel remote controlled helicopter.

Holly, if you're reading this, Scotter made me do it. He does, after all, make more money than me. And now, for Nick's Sake, some provocative shots of the beast undressed...

Oh... it seems to have fallen out of it's wears... Any pilot worth his salt will notice that those rotors are about 20% shorter than they should be. Well, fuck. I'm here to tell you it ain't easy to fly one of these bastards. So i suspect when i'm done typing here i'll shoot up to the local torture and hobby store to get some new rotors.

the drive around town will give housemate and I a chance to test out accelerometer v.1.0. I'm really having fun with this one...

DSC_0002

Stealing my inspiration from the internet (housemate on software, me on hardware), we used a microprocessor to read the analog output of an accelerometer. The accelerometer is a one chip design that measures +/- 2.5 G's on the two axis parallel to the chip itself. The processor uses it's internal analog to digital converter (ADC) to average and display these values real time. It will also hold the max value at any given time for about 1.2 seconds, so you can easily read off peak values as you're, for example, evading police interrogation in your highly modified, bullet proff caddy. Expect great things from this project in the future...

These are the projects that make life fun for an engineer who's real-life job involves pushin' too many pencils.

tastes like burning

I work in detroit.

Every person in south east michigan has at some point in their life, to simplify the mental geography of another, has claimed to "live/work in detroit" but i am blessed to be one of the few that actually lives or works within the city limits.

(detroit train station- well ventilated)

I'm being facetious.

No body is blessed in this city. Detroit is easily the most blown-out, blight-ridden, decayed, over-grown and hopeless-for-recovery of all the major cities of the U.S. Fuck "over there," this is a third word country. I'm convinced that every person who has business in this city is tied down by some force out of their control; Be it family, work or a missing limb.

My office is on a fairly major road and i travel approximately 2 miles on that road, between the building and the freeway i take to get there. There's at least a dozen boarded-up, abandoned, or empty building on that stretch. This includes a former car wash, former grocery store, former fast food restaurant and several other "former" buildings all nicely mixed in between the several bars (at least one of the strip variety), day care and McDonald's that remain. Keep in mind, I work at a major office (read: thousands of employees) and we're surrounded by ghetto. I'm talking walking skeletons with bad hair and broken sunglasses wondering the streets- ghetto.

The strangest part is, people from Detroit don't really understand how bad it is. I mean, again, no one is FROM Detroit, just the suburbs. And everyone knows you shouldn't go into the city, lest you be filming robot-cop III. But it's just accepted as... Detroit. Yet, today, i was listening to an Iranian and a French-Canadian discuss their impressions of the city and it was like they had landed on the moon. It was a joke here to them; there's nothing to do and no place to go.

I'm sick of this topic. I'm moving to Colorado.

Note: There are many websites dealing with "detroit urban exploring" in the many abandoned Detroit structures

FI-YAR!

Seems the town two over is burning down. Damn you refinery! you win again... (when will they learn!?)

[drops to knees, beats ground with fists]

Incidentally, while searching for web info pertaining to the massive toxic chemical fire that was burning out of control, i couldn't get past the stories surrounding the local stabbing and shootings... check it out.

If you REALLY want to piss some people off:
jigga-what?

chillin bro'

Thursday, August 04, 2005

i wish i had some substance to this empty post.

let's recap...

I found my keys for all those of you who were holding vigil. On the plus side, we can cancel that bulk order of "find them keys" yellow ribbon magnets.

I'm beginning to realize that every meeting at work will inevitably end by unanimously deciding that the issue at hand cannot be resolved and will need to be passed on to some other schmuck that couldn't attend today's meeting because he's busy at some other meeting. I think there's only like 7 people who make decision around there.

Chest finally manned up and got internet access so there should be a massive increase in indiscernible posts and off-topic responses.

I installed my oil pressure gauge and electronic scan tool that reads off the car's computer. unfortunately the scan tool wasn't allowing the ECU-bus of the pontiac to go into sleep mode when the car was off and drained my battery into a toxic-lead paper weight. (ever hear the joke about the battery engineer with the dead battery?) I'm waiting for the manufacturer to mail it back to me.

The Pelvic Queen had an interview that could put her into the heart of the auto industry and the bowels of Detroit. But i repeat myself.

Finally, i learned a new phrase at work, "surfacing the Issues," which is a real passive way of saying "This is what sucks about you and the work you're doing, but i'm just saying, ya know?"

where the fuck are my keys?

the world has taken a series of shits in my soup today, and tho i can normally weather these frustrating events fairly well, i feel like smashing something beautiful.

I am Curt's furious anger.
