now that i've seen the new Starwars movie, i feel i should fulfill my roll as internet blogger and offer a review of the flick.
(warning, some spoiling may ensue)
The Bad: Not every fuckin sentence uttered by Yoda was meant to be delivered in reverse prose. Fuck, man, it was like my brain wanted to explode every time Yoda opened his mouth. Furthering the perversion, the computer generated Yoda simply does not look right. Not even close.
The Good: A return to the roots of sexy spaceships in action packed, sci-fi-tastic battles. Don't get it twisted, this was no Hoth battle scene... but the opening sequence was pretty good.
The Bad: Why is everything so cleanly computer generated? The whole fucking universe is shinier than Samuel Jackson's freshly waxed dome. I miss the dark sets; the grimy X-wings with blaster marks, the dingy Millennium Falcon's interior and dirty cross-dressing bars where Solo hung out.
The Good: over all, this movie kicked the first two right in the jimmy. Lucas should have made only this last one, since it's really the one part of the story that relates directly to the other three. Screw those other two.
For a good review that makes mine look like it was written by 3rd graders with head traumas, check out this piece by the New Yorker.

Hey man, Thanks very much for the review. The movie is obviosly not available in theaters here... but there should be a dude on the street that will sell me a DVD of it within a few days. I think Thursday. I hope there isn't to much talking in the movie theater that they filmed the DVD in.
Why do you think that these new movies don't have the same pimpitude as the old ones? It is the same dude writing it... I will have more comments when it comes out on DVD in a few days here.
well, this is pretty much THE internet topic of conversation for the last three weeks, but here's what i've gathered...
okay, first of all, these new movies were directed AND produced by Lucas where the original three were directed by a different guy. Obviously it helped to mix up the creative input. A second point that was noted elsewhere: Try to think of one memorable quote from the new episodes... You can't (except there is this one line from the latest movie...) All the good one liners cam from the first three. Finally, there's the movie technology. I've decided that the technology had reached the perfect level in Jedi, where it was too weak in the first two and two "animated" in the following three.
on a side note, some will argue that the new movies are too much marketed towards children with silly characters and badly placed "uh-oh's" and "weeee's." They forget that the first three were basically marketed towards children as well, what with the Ewoks, Cantina bands and everybody's home-boy, Yoda. The only difference is, back then, we were the ones being successfully marketed towards and these new flicks are the first we've seen only as adults.
think about it man...
You might be onto something with all of your comments...
As a counter to the last one, do kids these days like the new ones as well as we liked to old ones when we were kids? I remember fights breaking out in kindergarden over who go to be Skywalker... Are kids doing the same now?
How come movie makers had such good technology with models at the end of Jedi, but they forsook all their skills for computer imagery? It doesn't make sence to go to somthing that is not as good.
It is two bad that Luca didn't share the creativity on this one. These new ones seem to show that his is probably not very good with girls. The new love sceens are worse than lord of the rings.
Leave it to Iraqi inginuity! We have scored a bootleg copy of Sith... We have comondeerd the Tactical Operations Center overhead screen! After blowing up only one set of speakers in the wrong electical outlet, We are about to watch the movie! I will have more comments in a few hours.
It is interesting. You are right that the scenery is a little antiseptic. Overall, I give it a thumbs up. The only problem I saw was the disregard for physics... witch is sort of a universal problem with most action movies. The flying scenes were on the verge of holding interest. I have to admit, the way the jedi's got waxed was pretty much the only plausable way that they could go down.
Those Iragis ain't all that. It's just that they sell their DVD rips person to person where we download them from 14 year old nerds thousands of miles away.
Either way... The movie is here now... and is $2 for your personal copy.
My cheep ass didn't get one.. I just watched someone else's
