+3 Skill

This week i purchased a welder. It can fit in a back pack, runs off household power and looks like this:

and the details can be found here

Here is what you should now about this purchase:

1) I've always wanted to be capable of joining metal and now i have the technology
2) Arc (or Stick welding) is harder than mig welding but the equipment is cheaper
3) The product was mis-marked in the store -$30 so i got it at an unintended discount
4) The whole set-up, welder, auto-darkening mask, rods, hammer, and beefed up electrode holder together was like 200 bones.
5) The reason this stuff was so cheap is China
6) The Welder box and all it's contents smell SEVERELY of dead fish.

That's right, the welder, the power cord, the instructions... all reek of fish. (You win again China)

Now i will endeavor on the self-taught welding process. remember kids: make small circles, watch out for sun burn and be sure you're getting good penetration.

Welding was my second favorite thing I learned in Metal Shop in 8th grade (after photography). One day, I will weld again. have fun! I'm envious (well, not of the fish smell).
